Day 3, searching for coolant leak, and misc little things

Image
If you read yesterdays disjointed blog you'll recall that I found coolant on the passenger side floor mat.  Today I took the under-dash hardura down to see what I could see and sure enough there is seepage coming from the enclosed space between the passenger compartment and the firewall.  This means that the heater transfer pipes have started to leak and will need to be replaced, unfortunately the car was actually built around these pipes so it takes a fair amount of work to get them out and the new stainless steel ones back in place including removing the dash top, the glove box, and the console. I'll be placing an order to William at SNG Barrett tomorrow.  Corrosion from coolant? Unwanted guest, well dried! Noise insulation makes a great nest? This is the cover for the turn signal and has cracked screw holes, old plastic is quite fragile Before I  repaired it with the barrel form a ball point pin and epoxy, hope it holds! Better ...

Day 2, Clutch, brakes and some disturbing findings

Image
Evening Folks, Started today with plans to bleed the clutch, brakes and repair some of the damage done by careless attempts to raise the car. I Bled the clutch and set the free-play without any issues but when I moved on to the brakes I immediately ran into issues when I couldn't get the drivers side front caliper to bleed, the passenger side bled just as I expected it too.  I checked the bleeder screw, the opening and made sure that the bleeder wasn't obstructed.  Then I checked to see if the brake line was damaged but no luck so I think it's most likely the flexible Brake hose feeding the caliper. One of my pet peeves is when the front picture frame gets beat up from jacking the car up at the front.  This can be greatly reduced by installing a hardwood block in place to protect the frame. At this point I decided to change tactics and straighten the bent and damaged panels including the floor pans, unfortunately this lead to another ...

Introducing Scott's 1970 Primrose OTS

Image
Hi There, This will be a blog discussing the work I am going to be doing on Scott's E Type Jaguar.  Scott bought this car in 1988 reportedly with 29,341 original miles on the odometer.  He is the second owner of this well documented car which now has 38.083 miles on it.   Scott tells me that the original owner bought it in September of 1970 from Continental Motors in St. Louis, Mo. after she passed away the car sat for three years till it was purchased by the second owner who replaced the left rocker panel and repainted the car in it's original primrose. Scott bought the car in August of '88 as a fortieth birthday present for himself and has been it's caretaker since. It appears to be a very original car that has been well maintained over the course of years with Scott keeping meticulous records of the service done on the car.  As with most cars of this vintage there are a few issues but in general the car appears to be very well preserved with no appa...
